Submissions for the second issue of the 2008-2009 academic year are now being collected. The continuing theme for this issue will be The Light at the End of the Tunnel. This topic is looking at projects and plans for the groups through the school year; keep us updated!


Guidelines:

• Submissions ought to be 500 words or less, unless otherwise indicated by the topic.
• Please e-mail all submissions to Robynne or Daniel. In the email, please indicate what general topic you are submitting for and the school you attend.
• Submissions should be saved as a .doc file. Please include in the file name your last name for easy reference. ex: butler_paperclips.doc ..
• If you'd like to submit an image to accompany your submission, please do! Make sure the image file's name is related to your .doc file. ex: butler_paperclips.jpg.

General Topics:

Student Chapter Happenings: These are brief re-caps of what the student chapters have been up to. Usually an officer of the chapter submits a general overview of a few events, or about events in the making.

Student Projects: Individual students are encouraged to submit descriptions about any projects they are involved with at their school, at work, or in the community relating to archives. These projects can include, but are not limited to:

Papers/Research Pursuits: The newsletter would like to feature student research. Submit an abstract/synopsis of a thesis, or a summary of a paper you’ve worked on. Maybe there’s a topic you are trying to flesh out and just want to share a few thoughts about it.

Education: Since this issue is highlighting archival education, please submit any writings about any educational programming/research you have participated with or worked on.

Internship Experiences: Hearing about other internships, the good and the bad, is helpful to everyone! It opens us up to environments which we may want to look into, or perhaps other types of institutions that really don’t sound as appealing as we originally thought. Reflect and share!

Technology: Hear of any intriguing tools or software for the profession? Used any software which you thought was quite helpful or too temperamental? We’re exposed to technology in the profession constantly, and it would be great to hear about others experiences and thoughts.

Archives in The World : Whenever I hear the word “archive” being used outside academic walls, my ears perk up. I’m always excited to see how archives are being reflected outside of journals, workshops, and chapter meetings. This is where we can bring each other’s attention to where archives are also being mentioned outside of our own bubbles.

Current Events : Hear any news lately? Give us a brief summary of any archival “news”, citing the source of the news as well.

Pop Culture: Played a video game recently and found that the character must access an archive? (yes… it does happen!) Or maybe been watching a movie and the plot includes an archive? Whatever it may be, cartoon, a song, comic book… Share it with us! We may want to check it out too!

Literature Reviews: Read a good book with an archival theme, principal or an archive within it? Share your opinion about the book and expose us to more reading material.
