After reading about this open-source software tool in ALA's Library journal, I became curious. Omeka is described as a tool that enables organizations to "Create complex narratives and share rich collections adhering to Dublin core standards with Omeka, designed for scholars, museums, libraries, archives, and enthusiasts".
Has anyone every used Omeka, or worked in a library/museum/archive where it is in current use? Or even if you haven't worked with it, have you heard anyone talk about the experience of using it?
Thanks, Z.

I'd love it if you could take a moment to say where you go to school, if you are under, grad or post-grad, what you love about it, the ease of application, etc, and also if you have an SAA Student chapter there.
Thanks, Robynne

I've noticed that this is a new site, with potential to meet people from all over the country, and then some. As of today, there are only 5 members here. Probably won't be difficult to get more, but who are we? Instead of visiting everyone's profile individually, we could post here. Questions to include? Where are you from? State, school... What is your interest in archives? What got you started? What is your ideal job? One area that you'd like to do research in. Anything else you'd like to add.

I would put this above what you have written on the home page. The home page should really tell people what this place is all about, who you are, goals, etc. The info where the pdfs are secondary to what the pdfs contain.

Yes. I think it would be good to have some information from here on the home page, but not all of it. Good observation! I wish wetpaint had a way to alert me when a new thread is created... heh. I'm still learning.

Dear OTA-- I followed a link from the SAA Student forum and it took me quite a while to figure what you were about. It might be helpful to include some of the answers to these questions on this intro page: What does OTA stand for? What is the "Chapters and Loose Papers"? (I looked at the attachments, but I might not have had the time on another day) What do you hope to share in this newsletter? Will certain issues have themes? What kind of student papers would you like to see? Abstracts for all research being done? Who are you guys? Where are you from? What is your experience in archives and with SAA? Links to your profiles on Wetpaint. Is there an option for an RSS feed? I'm hoping to contribute to the newsletter. I had an archive friend look at the site and she was like, "OK...What is it?" I'm new to Wetpaint as well as C&LP, so I'm not sure how the logistics of posting here and notifications work, so drop me a line :) Rachel P. UW-Madison Archive Student

Hi! Great questions... and yes. Perhaps I'll get some pages up on this wiki to explain more about the newsletter. As far as OTA is concerned... that's a long story. Basically, the name is attached because wetpaint doesn't allow you to change screennames without starting a new account.
I think there's a lot of potential for this wiki space! Thanks for following the link from the studnet forum. At least we know that the word is starting to get out.. which means it's time to get this wiki into better shape as well.
